General Information:
-
Youth classes may be held at any
ALSA sanctioned show and must be offered at Level II and Level III shows.
-
ALSA Youth Shows may be held as free
standing shows offering only Youth classes.
-
All youth, ages 8 through 18, as of
January 1 of the current year, may show in ALSA youth classes. 8 year olds
may start to show on their eighth birthday.
-
Youth must be an ALSA member to show
in ALSA shows. Or you may pay a non-member fee.
-
Youth must be an ALSA Youth member
in order to accumulate Annual and Lifetime Awards.
-
The annual youth membership fee is
$25.00. You may join ALSA here.
You will receive a Y#### membership number which must be included with all
entries.
-
Youth must have written permission
of a parent, project leader, 4-H advisor, or FFA advisor to participate in a
Youth event.
-
Youth may exhibit only one animal
per class and must show in the appropriate age category.
-
Youth may not show the same animal
in both youth classes and open classes.
-
Youth may use either llamas or
alpacas. The animal will not accumulate awards in the Youth
Division. The youth accumulate the awards in their name.

Youth Division Age
Categories:
Juniors -
Handler age 8 through 11
Intermediates - Handler age 12 through 14
Seniors - Handler age 15 through 18
Ages are as of January 1st of
the current year. Juniors may start showing
on the date of their 8th birthday.
Youth who turn 19 after January 1st but before the Grand National Show of
their final showing year, may complete the year as a youth in the Senior
Division.

ALSA Youth Awards Program:
Requirements for Annual and Lifetime Youth Awards
-
All ALSA Youth members will have placements recorded for awards.
-
Points for ALSA awards are only offered at ALSA sanctioned shows.
-
The annual term for awards is January 1 through December 31.
-
In order to receive points, the class must have at least 3
entries in the class.
-
Lifetime awards can only be accumulated until the 19th birthday.
-
Points will be accumulated by the ALSA Point Chart.
As you show throughout your youth years, you will be
continually accumulating points for the following awards:

ALSA High Point Annual Awards
"To be included in
the Annual High Point Top Ten list is an achievement
any youth would be proud of. The list is made up of youth from
all across the country and represents a lot of very hard work."
Points will be accumulated by the ALSA Point Chart
according to your placings.
The Top Ten Youth with the highest number of accumulated points in each of
the following categories will be recognized at the end of each year.

ALSA Superior Youth Award
Youth who have demonstrated outstanding placements by
winning
at least 5 first places OR 4 first places and 2
second places, may
qualify for the following achievements. These placements can be
accumulated over time periods of showing in different age divisions.

Ultimate Youth Achievement Award
Youth who have demonstrated outstanding performances above
the
Superior Level may qualify for the Ultimate Youth Award - the highest
achievement level that ALSA has to offer. This is indeed a title to
be proud of!
Requirements for this level of achievement are as follows:
Six Showmanship First Places
Six Obstacle First Places
Two Pack First Places OR two Public Relations First Places

Qualifying for a Regional Championship Show
Youth may qualify for an ALSA Regional Champion Show as
follows:
-
First, second, or third place in an approved youth class
-
Fourth place in an approved class of at least 15 entries
-
Fifth place in an approved class of at least 25 entries
-
Performance Champion and Reserve Performance Champion
-
Youth who have earned a Superior award may show in the class in
which the award was earned and may use any animal they choose.
-
Youth who have earned the Ultimate Achievement Award may show
in all the Youth classes offered and may use any animal they choose.
Youth must compete in the
Regional Shows using the same animal
that they qualified with. All youth must be a member of ALSA
in order to exhibit in a Regional Championship Show.

Qualifying for the Grand National Show of Champions
Youth may qualify for an ALSA Grand National Championship Show as
follows:
-
Performance Champion and Reserve Performance Champion at any
ALSA show will qualify in Youth Obstacle, Youth Public Relations, and
Youth Pack
-
Any 1st Place in Showmanship at an ALSA show in a class of at least 3 entries.
-
Youth who have earned a Superior award may show in the class in
which the award was earned and may use any animal they choose.
-
Youth who have earned the Ultimate Achievement Award may show
in all the Youth classes offered and may use any animal they choose.
-
First, second, or third place in any approved youth class at a Regional show.
-
Fourth place in an approved class of at least 15 entries at a Regional show.
-
Fifth place in an approved class of at least 25 entries at a Regional show.
-
Youth Judging - The top four placings in Junior, Intermediate, and Senior
divisions who are able to attend the Grand National Show.
All youth must be a member of ALSA
in order to exhibit in the Grand National Show of Champions.
